Bhutan Visa

Visa is required for Traveling to Bhutan and it is processed in Thimphu through a local tour operator such as Yak Adventure Travel. No foreign missions/ embassies abroad grants tourist visa.

* All passport details should be forwarded to the agent at least 1 month prior to date of travel for visa processing.

* Actual visa is stamped only on arrival in Bhutan with the support of visa clearance, which will be sent to you in advance.

* For all Travelers, entering Bhutan via Druk Air, visa clearance number is forwarded to the concerned overseas Druk Air Stations and without this clearance number the passengers are not allowed to board the flight.

* For Travelers entering the country by surface through Phuentsholing and Samdrup Jongkhar (The border town in the Southern Bhutan), visa Clearance number is forwarded to the Local Authority and the actual visa is stamped on arrival. Two copies of passport size photographs are required on arrival. – Visa fee is USD 20 per person and it should be paid along with the Tour payment

A valid passport is required for all nationals except Indians. For Travel to Bhutan, the validity of the passport should be minimum 6 months.

The Minimum Tariff for tourist visiting in a group of 3 persons or more as follows:
~ Daily Tourist Tariff –US$ 200 per person per night halt (This tariff is valid till 31st December 2011).


The Minimum Tariff for tourist visiting in a group of 3 persons or more as follows with effect from 1st January 2012.
~ Daily Tourist Tariff – US$ 250 per person per night for the month of March, April, May, September, October & November.


The Tariff effective from 1st Jan 2012 is as follows for the group visiting during the lean season months ( January, February, June, July, August & December)

~ Daily Tourist Tariff – US $ 200 per person per night for Tourist visiting in a group of 3 persons or more.

The Minimum Daily package rates shall be inclusive of the following:

a)      Royalty
b)      Charges of the accommodations
c)      Food and Beverages as per the ‘Minimum Meal Entitlements’
d)     Services of Guides
e)      Transport within Bhutan
f)       Riding ponies and pack animals on treks

The rates given above are applicable per tourist per night halt in Bhutan. On the day of departure, the ‘local agents’ host obligation shall be limited to breakfast only and any extra requirements shall be payable on actual basis. The rates shall apply uniformly irrespective of locations and the type of accommodation provided/asked for. List of hotels and lodges approved for international tourist accommodation updated from time to time shall be issued by the Department of Tourism.

Individual tourist and smaller groups of less than three persons shall be subject to surcharges, over and above the minimum daily rates applicable and is as follows:

~ Single individual: US$ 40 per night

~ Group of 2 persons:  US$ 30 per person per night

The 10% agency commission payable to agents abroad shall not be deductible from the surcharges.
The surcharge will not be applicable to representatives of foreign travel agents on business study or promotional visit duly approved and cleared by the Tourism Council of Bhutan.

  • There shall be no charge for the children up to the age of 5 years. However, those between the ages of 6-12 years accompanied by elders/guardians shall be given 50% discount on daily rates.
  • Full time students below the age of 25 years holding valid identity cards from their academic institutions shall also be given a 25% discounts on daily rates.
  • A discount of 50% on daily rates shall be given to one person in a group of 11 to 15 people. 100% discount shall be given to one member in a group exceeding 16 persons.
  • A discount of 10% on the daily rates shall be provided for halts between 11 to 20 nights and 20% discount on halts beyond 21 nights.
  • Visitors availing discounts under Sections A, B & C shall not be eligible for discount under D.
  • Detailed information of Druk Air Flights, tour and trekking programmes, festivals, places of interest, hotels etc. can be obtained from the tour operator.

    Tour programmes booked and subsequently cancelled shall be subject to cancellation charges as follows:

  • Within 30 days of start of programme – 50 % of the cost.
  • Within 15 days of start of program – 100 % of the cost.
  • After arrival in Bhutan – 100% of the cost.
  • All the tour payments must be settled one month in advance of commencement of tour to clear the Visa and other necessary documents. The tour booking will be confirmed only after we receive 100% of the tour payment. Please deposit/transfer the tour payment to the following Bank:-
