Any reasonably active person who can walk for 5 to 6 hours a day can do the Trek in Bhutan. On an average, the trekkers have to climb maximum 500 meters a day. Some Treks like Jumolhari Trek, Laya – Gasa Trek and Snow Man Trek are strenuous and you need to be physically and mentally prepared to do it.

A Day on a Trek (Bhutan Trekking): Trekking in Bhutan will involve walking for 6 – 7 hours a day. Unlike Trekking in Nepal and India where the supplies are carried by the porters, Ponies are used in Bhutan and for the higher altitude, the yaks are used. The Trekking group is accompanied by a Trained Trekking guide, Trekking Assistant, Trekking cook, Horse men and pack animals. The group will also have one extra pony for provision incase a group member should fall sick and can’t walk. The Horse men loads and unloads the daily supplies and other equipments. The trekking assistants walk ahead of the group pitches the tents before the group arrives in the camp and our trekking crew does all the cooking and cleaning chores. All meals are prepared in the camp and you have the choice of dishes you like from Indian, Chinese, Bhutanese and continental.

Altitude sickness: Most of the Trekking routes in Bhutan pass above 3500 meters and the altitude can pose serious problem to some trekkers. The early symptoms of Altitude sickness are nausea, headache, fatigue and loss of appetite. It is advisable that you get acclimatized for a day or two in Bhutan before you start your Trek. People with heart, lungs or High Blood pressure should refrain from trekking. You should inform your guide immediately if you suffer from these symptoms while on a Trek. The immediate answer to this problem is that you have to descend to the lower altitude immediately and drink a lot of liquid.

Insurance for Travel / Trekking in Bhutan: It is necessary that the Tourists Traveling / Trekking in Bhutan should have an Insurance covering, covering theft, medical treatment and Rescue operation. Such insurance facilities are not available in Bhutan.

Helicopter Rescue Operation: There are no helicopter services available in Bhutan. We have to hire the Helicopter from the Indian Army head Quarter in the neighboring Indian states of West Bengal for any rescue operation. As such immediate rescue of the Tourists is not possible. Sometimes, it may take days to get the Helicopter depending on the weather condition which is unpredictable. You should immediately inform your Tour guide if you are sick on a Trek or Tour
